Deconstructing prejudices and stereotypes. This is how the City of Vera will celebrate the Day of the Andalusian Gypsies. And it has developed an extensive program of activities that make visible those elements brought by them and which today form are based on the identity of the region itself, whose most obvious example is flamenco. So, for ten days and through roundtables, exhibitions, flamenco masses or with the celebration of the I Gala of the International Awards that pay tribute to this artistic expression that has become part of the Andalusian DNA, the veratenses are immersed in an agenda meticulously prepared for just over three months from the Department of Equality and Social Services.
The element on which turns planning the commemoration is the exhibition "calé Sinando: yesterday and today". Inaugurated by Mayor Felix Lopez, Councillor promoter area, Yolanda Torres, Vera responsible for Gitana and Generosity San Anton association can be seen in the Convento de la Victoria until next 3 December. In the exhibition is a tour through the history of the Roma people, since leaving India until the arrival in Andalusia in year 1462 and the integration of culture in Andalusia as a part of their own identity. "There are aspects throughout the story in which a fusion occurs so ingrained that the exchange of the hallmarks speak at the end of one people, Andalusian, flamenco and perhaps the fact that we can more easily recognize, but there are many who pass us unnoticed, that are part of our day by day and with this exhibition we try to value ", says the Councillor for Equality and Human Services.
And if one of the highlights of the dating cycle the occasion of this anniversary is the Flemish Mass will be held Saturday 26 November at 19:30 in the church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, the best taste I leave will be the Gitana Gastronomy Competition, with prizes for the three best dishes, to be held in church halls the day 2 December at 18:30 hours.
