The municipalities of Huércal-Overa and Puerto Lumbreras have taken steps to implement the project "Eco Green", part of the program Empleaverde, funded by the European Social Fund. The total budget is 205.164,96 euros, being of the ESF assistance 164.131,97 CREA euros in line Empleaverde. Lumbrerense Consistory is a beneficiary of this program with the collaboration of the municipality of Huércal-Overa.

Thereby, will boost the training of unemployed people in the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources in agriculture and tourism sector, providing participants with skills in new green skills demanded by the industry for the transition to a low carbon economy.

The strategy pursued by this project is twofold: first, act considering the fundamental problem of high soil erosion and the existing water deficit; Secondly, train unemployed, especially women and other priority groups.

In 12 months project duration, It is intended to carry out 12 training activities in Huércal-Overa and Puerto Lumbreras. The courses are related to 'organically grown citrus', 'Drones for eco-efficient soil and water', 'Sustainable Landscaping in green spaces and natural areas for tourism and urban use', 'HORTICULTURE: Ecoefficiency, ICT circular economy ', 'Precision agriculture and internet of things: water efficiency, energy and reclamation’ and 'Recovery and Custody soil in the agricultural and tourist use'.

This project, that encourages quality employment in the environmental sector and eco-management of green spaces and natural areas for agricultural and tourist use, allow the formation of a total of 302 people in both municipalities with a guaranteed job placement of 10% participants, being 147 the people will benefit from these training activities in the municipality huercalense.

Fernandez explained that "this program will foster job creation and obtaining qualifications among people who have greater difficulties accessing the labor market through the environment which is a clear business opportunity capable of generating employment and wealth, while preserving our natural heritage and biodiversity, besides fulfilling one of our priorities "that is employment, through this program a large number of people in our town will improve their chances of employment with training in new economic sectors linked to the environment”.

The mayor pointed out that, "The content of the training is innovative, since training activities never been made in these new green skills adapted to the real needs of the territory and sector in this area ".

It employs green program aims the employment of groups with higher risk and sensitize the business community about the need to protect the soil and incorporate new professional profiles that support the transformation of the sector towards the low carbon economy.
