One of the rooms of La Tercia of the Castillo del Marqués de Los Vélez de Cuevas del Almanzora will soon host the new museum project of the municipality that will deal with "Fishing in Antiquity".
This project, that has a budget of 82.345 euros, It is subsidized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Cattle raising, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Junta de Andalucía with the participation of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (FEMP) (aid for projects under the local participatory development strategies of the local action group of the fisheries sector (GALP) Almeria coast, announcement 2018).
As the mayor of culture and tourism has indicated, Maria Isabel Ponce, “This week the installation of elements and equipment has begun in the Cuevana exhibition hall, whose execution will last three months ”.
Nowadays, Cuevas has an exhibition space on archeology in the Bronze Age. The aim of this new project is to enrich this exhibition by introducing an exhibition on the important old city of Baria, focusing on the importance of fishing and the industries associated with it in the Phoenician and Roman times.
In this framework, The Museum is conceived as a space whose main thematic axis will be "Fishing in Antiquity in Cuevas del Almanzora", that will take a tour of everything related to fishing in Phoenician and Roman Baria. On the other hand, the Argaric world, represented in Cuevas del Almanzora by the Fuente Álamo deposit mainly, will constitute the other thematic block of the Museum.
Also, The exhibition assembly will include museographic elements that will form an interpretive tour on fishing in the coastal strip of Villaricos.
